Brooke M. Benzio practices in the areas of health law, elder law/long-term care planning, estate planning, and estate administration along with Partner Michael J. Swan. She grew up in Illinois and her family moved to the Treasure Coast in 2001. Prior to joining the firm, she practiced estate planning and elder law at a prominent boutique firm in Saint Lucie County, Fla.
Benzio graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2005, and received her Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, including a Certificate in Health Law from the Beazley Institute for Health Law & Policy in 2008. She has been licensed by the Florida Bar since January 2011 and is a frequent speaker on the topic in healthcare law and has published articles in the subject area as well.
Benzio participates in fundraising activities for the Senior Resource Center and is a member of the Brevard, Indian River and St. Lucie County Bar Associations. In her leisure time, she enjoys our beautiful beaches, live music, quality time with her family and is an avid supporter of FSU athletics.
Jason Slater practices in the areas of business law and civil litigation, including employment, labor, real estate, and probate disputes, along with Partner Thomas W. Tierney. His prior experience encompassed working for large law firms in Los Angeles, representing clients in a wide spectrum of legal matters ranging from private and public company securities transactions to product liability litigation.
Slater grew up in London, England and became a United States citizen over 15 years ago. He is a member of the California and Florida State Bars.
Slater is a 1993 graduate from Reading University in Reading, England, with a Bachelor of Laws with Honors, and graduated cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center in 1998 with his Juris Doctor degree. He is a member of the Brevard and Indian River County Bar Associations. He has co-authored four company handbooks, contributed to numerous client newsletters and has won recognition in Arthur Andersen’s Prize for Honors First Class in Revenue Law. In his time away from the office, he is devoted to spending time with his wife and children, participates in travel and extreme outdoor activities, and enjoys a healthy and active lifestyle.
Blake Smith was born and raised in Richmond Virginia and moved to Florida when he graduated from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn. in 2004. In 2007, he graduated from Florida Coastal School of Law. He practices in the areas of probate, guardianship, and mental health law with Partner Michael J. Swan. Prior to joining the firm, he worked for the State of Florida as a public defender and was the first attorney to successfully argue and receive a dismissal under the Florida Stand Your Ground Law in Indian River County.
He is a member of the Florida Bar and the Brevard and Indian River County Bar Associations. He participates in numerous professional and volunteer associations, primarily in the areas of assisting underprivileged youth and less fortunate families.
He has also been a guest commentator on local radio talk shows.
Smith is a history aficionado who enjoys playing tennis and participating in numerous outdoor activities.
