It’s hard to believe that 2015 is right in front of us. We were just getting the hang of 2014 and BOOM, it’s gone! Our time is now consumed with budget planning, strategizing, and executing plans to ensure that 2015 is a year to go down in the record books.

Next year is an exciting year in the digital marketing space, with lots of new technology that is really starting to take root online. These are the top five digital marketing trends for 2015, so let’s see how many you have on your to-do list, or have already implemented.

Mobile-Friendly Content
Mobile phone usage is steadily on the rise, and having a website that is mobile-friendly is going to be more important than ever. With the ever-growing popularity of “phablets” and larger phones, users are ditching their laptops for their mobile devices.

Your website should give users the same excellent experience they have on their desktop on their mobile device. If your website is still using flash or other applets that don’t work perfectly on all devices, it’s time to ditch them for a mobile-friendly design that allows your customers to research and shop on the go.

Google Remarketing
This is one of the shiny new toys in our industry and is frankly one of my top picks for branding and getting the most bang for your buck out of all of your other digital marketing efforts.

When potential customers visit your website, they will be given a “gift” upon landing on your webpage. That “gift” is called a cookie, and it will then “follow” them to other websites. So if you go to a website with a remarketing code on it, then visit your favorite sports website, you may see an ad for that very same business on that website, and the next one, and the next one. In fact, any website in Google’s display network could show that business’ ad.

Remarketing enables you to maximize each visitor to your website by displaying your brand over and over to users surfing websites that serve Google ads. Remarketing is an inexpensive way to brand your business and stay top of mind with consumers, since you only pay when they click on your ad and visit your website again.

Content Will Still Be King
The old adage in our industry is “Content is King,” and in 2015, it will remain the same.  Google continues to tweak their algorithms, punishing websites with weak or duplicate content, and rewarding those that have strong, unique content. There is no rewarding for relevant, up-to-date content on your website.

The most effective way that businesses are getting to the top of the search engines organically is through blogging. Blogging enables you to keep your website fresh by telling Google’s bots that you have new, fresh content for users to find and enjoy. This is also a great way to distinguish you as a thought leader amongst your potential customers and peers.

Template-based websites are so last year! The barrage of “build it yourself” websites have absolutely engulfed the Internet and left users frustrated and yearning for something more.
