A Local Staple

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Dexter’s can easily be defined as a fixture of the Winter Park restaurant scene. Their success in the area has translated into three more locations around Central Florida, so you can bet they’re doing something right. I’ve always known that Dexter’s is the spot to go for an award-winning brunch, but I mistakenly ignored their extensive lunch menu until my most recent visit.
Located on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and New England Avenue in beautiful downtown Winter Park, Dexter’s beams with local charm. The interior styling features a spacious seating arrangement surrounded by colorful artwork and walls of wine. The middle of the room is where you’ll find the U-shaped bar, which is a great place to soak in the atmosphere.
I was able to sample a variety of menu items from their main lunch menu and from the seasonal menu created by long time Chef James David Smith. The Chef’s seasonal menu is changed to reflect the availability of fresh ingredients and features an assortment of dishes unique to the Winter Park location. I started with the Grilled Cheese and Bacon Sandwich with Tomato Soup. This crispy, delicious sandwich also includes tomato and fresh avocado.
The Buffalo Chicken Tacos were up next. Served in soft tortillas, this trio of tacos is great for sharing. Also from the seasonal menu, the Sesame Crusted Tuna Salad was a pleasant combination of napa and red cabbage dressed with a sesame-soy ginger dressing. The earthy flavor of the sesame paired nicely with the crisp ginger sweetness.
Dexter’s of Winter Park is the quintessential local hangout! You’ve got a fantastic Sunday brunch, a variety of specials, live music, and more. Check out their selection of over 30 wines by the glass, stop in Tuesday from 5 p.m. to close for $1 Burger Night, or roll through Wednesday through Saturday for live music after 8 p.m.
