A Culinary Journey You’ll Never Forget

Restaurant Row in Dr. Phillips is home to so many restaurants that you could eat out every day for a year and never have the same dish twice. A select few, however, will have you craving dishes over and over again. Dragonfly Robata Grill & Sushi is quite possibly my new No. 1 amongst that group.

dragonfly-sushi-orlandoLocated in the Dellagio Town Center, Dragonfly offers guests a modern take on a Japanese izakaya establishment. The idea centers around groups having fun sharing tapas-style dishes, hand-crafted cocktails, and enjoying each other’s company. Prepare to take a culinary journey as you enjoy something you’ve never tried, and will never forget.

The interior of Dragonfly is a well-thought-out combination of elegant spaces with a design aesthetic that carries throughout. The restaurant provides diners an abundance of seating options for every occasion. Specialty rooms outside of the main dining area include a chef’s table, VIP room, patio bar, sushi bar, and more. The sushi bar offers a great view of the action in the kitchen, while the VIP room offers up AV options for your next business presentation.

Our group started off with a trio of small dishes with the assistance of our server, who was a wealth of helpful knowledge. The Big Eye Tuna Kobachi, Seared Wahoo Sashimi, and Spicy Hokkaido Scallops were up first. All the dishes were artfully presented, and each was accompanied with a sauce or dressing that complimented the delicate flavors of the main ingredient perfectly. The scallops in their spicy jalapeño puree were especially memorable and ended up being the group favorite after much debate. We also highly recommend trying the Cucumber Compulsion Martini to accompany any of the dishes above.

The second round consisted of even more mouthwatering goodness. We let the chef pick, and received the Wagyu Beef with Wild Mushroom Ragout, Pork Ramen, and sushi-in-orlandoa Bomb Roll. With our appetites primed from round one, these dishes absolutely vanished from the table. This time, we decided not to pick favorites, because they each occupy a separate style and are always winners. However, we gave extra points to the Wild Mushroom Ragout that accompanied the perfectly cooked Wagyu Beef. I’ve run out of buzzwords to describe it, so I’ll only say that you must try it.

Embodying the Japanese idea of Kaizen—to always be improving, the staff, management and chefs all strive to make your visit something to remember.
