Business Bites: Yellow Dog Eats

By Dave Nevill Jr. of

The words “a casual café” are on a small sign heading out to the patio of Chef Fish Morgan’s Yellow Dog Eats in Gotha, but the word casual is a bold understatement. This is the most chilled-out, free-love-inspired, do-whatever-you-like café we’ve ever been to. There isn’t an inch of this restaurant that isn’t positively oozing charm and style. The outdoor garden patio is the perfect spot to enjoy a sunny Florida day, and the cozy Little Dog Bar has happy hour taken care of. So grab yourself a menu, hop in line at the counter, and soak in the atmosphere of one of the coolest restaurants in Orlando.

You’ll find the menu definitely matches the playful attitude of rest of the place, with menu names like “Fluffy Love” and “What The Fig?” The majority of the menu consists of piled-high sandwiches (Signature and BBQ), salads, and sides. You’ll have a lot to consider, but never forget to check the special of the day. These one-off creations are always a popular choice for regulars. To start things off right, I have to recommend the Tomato and Mozzarella Salad with the balsamic drizzle. It’s the perfect way to kick off the meal while you wait for your food to be prepared.

The first sandwich I ever tried here was the Florida Cracker. The house-smoked tender pulled pork base is topped with coleslaw, Gouda cheese, pecan-smoked bacon, pickles, fried onions, and finally topped with Fish’s Gold BBQ Sauce. Next up was Mr. Smokey, which swapped the pickles and slaw for smoked pineapple. Other favorites of ours are The Holy Crap and the Kitty Kat. I’ve yet to have something I didn’t really enjoy or flat out love. They’ve also got a nice selection of beer, wine, and other concoctions.

Hands down, Chef Morgan has created one of the most iconic restaurants in Orlando. The food, style, atmosphere, and overall presentation of Yellow Dog Eats has to leave an impression. From Montel the black cat, to the roosters in the parking lot, to the hollowed out VW bus you can eat in, it’s all here!
