Business Fashion: From Working Hours to After Hours

How to Transition Seamlessly

By: Wendy Lyn Phillips

The season of holiday office parties, after-work events and family get-togethers is here! Transitioning smoothly from a day at work to an after-work holiday party requires that you bring a few items from your wardrobe to change out once the working day is over.

Start with the black dress you wore to the office, add some forethought and these tips, and you’ll be comfortably rocking the evening party in style.

Trade This for That

  • Your bulky bag for an evening clutch
  • Your office-style pumps for sexy sling backs
  • Your simple and clean jewelry for some bling
  • Your suit jacket for a shawl wrap, sequined sweater or silk scarf

Let Your Hair Down
If your hair is generally worn back, behind your ear or in a ponytail, let it down and bring a little hair balm or mousse to tease it up a bit. Conversely, if you usually wear it down, bring along pins and hairspray and try a fancy bun for an evening up-do.

Touch It Up
An easy swap for your day makeup look to an evening one is to opt for a brighter lip color like a holiday Apple Berry shade and finish it with clear gloss and an extra coat of mascara. All steps can be applied easily from the front seat of your car. Voilà! Slip into those heels and off you go.
