Having the proper information ready when beginning the home loan application process can turn what can be a stressful situation into an efficient and rewarding endeavor. There are four types of information that mortgage lenders may require or request you have ready when applying for a home loan:
- Employment and Income Information: Employment and income information includes two years employment verification, the last 2 years of tax returns and W-2 tax forms, and your most recent paycheck stubs. VA applicants will need a copy of DD214 discharge papers and/or original certificate of eligibility.
- Assets: Assets require your last two months bank statements, as well as the last two months investment account statements.
- Property Information: Property information includes your residence history for the past 2 years, contract of sale of present home, if applicable, and a copy of your current real estate contract.
- Liabilities: Liabilities depend on individual circumstance, and might include copies of divorce or bankruptcy papers, alimony payments, or child support.
Additional information such as your driver’s license, social security card, check or credit card for any application fee, current year-to-date profit and loss statement, or documentation supporting previous credit events, may be required.
Having these documents ready ensures that the home loan application process goes as smoothly as possible. We put together a checklist of the documents that may be required or requested. Access our Application Checklist here.
