Future Legacy Pointe at UCF Residents Celebrate Major Construction Milestone with “Topping Off” Parade

Residents Celebrate Orlando’s First University-Affiliated Retirement Community, Expected to Open Fall 2021

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 30, 2021) – Future residents of Orlando’s newest continuing care retirement community, Legacy Pointeat UCF, gathered today for an exciting visit to their soon-to-be homes with a parade-style event to celebrate “topping off” the community’s final building.

The formal portion of the event took place at The Celeste Hotel where future residents, staff and community members gathered to hear an update from Legacy Pointeleadership, enjoy light snacks and refreshments, and even hang out with University of Central Florida’s (UCF) mascot, Knightro. Following the formal portion of the program, residents were directed over to the construction site – just two miles away – for the drive-thru event where they saw their future homes in-progress and signed their names on a truss from the community’s main building, officially cementing themselves as part of the structure into perpetuity.

“We were so excited to bring together so many members of our Legacy Pointe family to celebrate such a key milestone for our community,” said Domenica Wehman, LegacyPointe executive director. “Their commitment to LegacyPointe marks a truly special moment in Central Florida’s history, as we are one step closer to bringing Orlando its first university-affiliated continuing care retirement community.”

Legacy Pointe at UCF is managed by Greystone and is nearing completion on Old Lockwood Road, Oviedo, just north of McCulloch Road and directly across from Seminole County’s Econ River Wilderness Area. Future residents will have the opportunity to live independently or assisted, in either spacious villas or apartment homes. Residents will also have lifelong access to assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation services.

Researched and planned by thought leaders at UCF, LegacyPointe’s physical proximity and working affiliation with the university will elevate practically every aspect of community life for its residents. As a result of partnerships with respective colleges at UCF, Legacy Pointe residents can expect:

  • Access to a multigenerational campus with a UCF student ID card, given to all Legacy Pointe residents, to enjoy academic opportunities at UCF, just like a registered student;
  • Lifelong learning programs that will help advance successful aging within the community;
  • Opportunities to enjoy UCF arts and cultural facilities and activities, sporting events and more; and,
  • Cutting-edge, resident-centered care.

“The partnership between Legacy Pointe and UCF is far reaching and opens a new lifestyle that’s never before been available in Central Florida,” said Bob Holmes, Legacy Pointe board chairman. “This is truly the beginning of a new era of senior living in our region and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome our residents home later this fall.”

Last fall, UCF’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management introduced the state’s first Senior Living Management Bachelor of Science degree, which is an interdisciplinary program that combines hospitality management with aging studies and health care management.

“Applying the culture of hospitality to senior living is a critical component to creating a healthy and inclusive community,” said Dr. Abraham Pizam, Legacy Pointe board member and founding dean at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management. “The new senior living degree program at UCF teaches students those values early, and we hope their experiences inspire them to one day work at Legacy Pointe and continue their own legacy as Knights.”

Legacy Pointe at UCF is expected to open its doors in fall 2021. The community is over 80 percent pre-sold. To learn more, visit www.legacypointeatucf.com.
