Local Resident Recognized as 2021 Taste of Oviedo Poster Artist

Oviedo, FL (March 4, 2021) – The Oviedo-Winter Springs Regional Chamber of Commerce (OWSRCC) is proud to announce that Margie Sloane has been named the 2021 Taste of Oviedo Poster Artist and winner of its annual poster contest. Also recognized as the poster artist in 2014 and 2016, Sloane is the only artist and Oviedo resident to design the coveted poster three times.  The 27thAnnual Taste of Oviedo will be held on Saturday, March 27, at the Oviedo Mall.

Sloane is an award-winning digital photo artist, residing in the Oviedo area for over 33 years. Her expertise in photography over the past decade has been showcased in exhibitions and galleries and on social media. She has been active in the community, serving two years on the Oviedo Public Arts Board and as an active chamber member and volunteer. Margie’s photographic art has been often selected as cover art in a number of social media groups.

Sloane says: “My passion for digital art evolved from taking photos to accompany my editorial work over many years. I discovered I loved being behind the lens and then was fascinated when I discovered the potential computer editing programs provided to turn my photos into works of art.”

She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing and then spent several years in clinical practice, which eventually led to a new career in writing about nursing and a variety of general interest topics. As assistant editor and then editor of several local magazines, Sloane’s duties often required camera work which sparked her love of photography and a delight for capturing subjects through the camera lens. She specializes in nature and landscape photos and works with clients to produce unique pieces of photo art.

Bridget Lake, OWSRCC President, adds: “We are excited to recognize Margie for the third time as our Taste Poster Artist! Her passion for community and photo art shine through in this year’s design, which captures the essence of Oviedo at our monthly farmer’s market which takes place at the historic Lawton House.”

Each year, the Taste of Oviedo committee opens the poster contest to the public, with entries of any medium of art due in early January; this year, 24 artists responded. This poster and some from years past will be available for sale at the chamber tent during the event.

Taste of Oviedo is produced by the Oviedo-Winter Springs Regional Chamber of Commerce and the City of Oviedo and presented by Air Flow Designs Heating & Air Conditioning.
