Orlando Economic Partnership Releases Second COVID-19 Regional Businesses Impact Survey

On April 9, Orlando Economic Partnership released its second COVID-19 regional businesses impact survey on Orlando.org/covid19. This survey will close Wednesday, April 15 at 5 p.m., with the next edition scheduled for April 30 at 9 a.m. The information will be used to inform regional, state and federal leaders as real-time impact information is crucial to align policy to the true challenges facing the business community. It will also be used to help funders prioritize relief efforts. Businesses are encouraged to answer this second survey even if they took the first one distributed two weeks ago as it will measure the continued impacts on the business environment during this rapidly evolving situation.

Key takeaways from the first regional business impact survey:

  • 74% of businesses surveyed are already feeling a negative impact of the crisis, largely due to lost and delayed sales
  • 76% of businesses surveyed told us they are experiencing some form of decline in profits
  • Most respondents (55%) revealed they have already begun layoffs or shortening hours and more than 50% of small businesses report having less than 12 weeks of capital to survive the crisis
  • Small businesses, with 2-99 employees, account for roughly two-thirds of all employment in Orlando, making the strategy of small business response and support crucial for mitigating the impacts of this crisis. This shows the urgency of federal financial response and the imperative to get businesses the relief fast
  • You can dig deeper into the data with this analysis of the first survey results

As results become available, you may view them on the Orlando Economic Partnership website at: orlando.org/COVID19
