Rollins College and Full Sail University Announce Collaborative Educational Partnership

Winter Park, Fla. (October 20, 2017) – Rollins College and Full Sail University recently announced an educational partnership whereby students and faculty from both schools collaborate to explore, discuss, analyze, perform and record artistic content.

As part of the partnership, Rollins provides the talent of their Music performance students and ensembles, as well as Music faculty in all disciplines. Full Sail brings the talent of its Music Production and Recording Arts students alongside its faculty to produce and record these live performances. Full Sail’s faculty is comprised of industry professionals and the partnership will utilize Full Sail’s state-of-the art recording studios and facilities for this initiative and for further future educational purposes.

“In early conversations with Full Sail University President Garry Jones, he and I quickly came to the same conclusion that a collaboration between our Music students and Full Sail’s Music Production and Recording Arts students would provide outstanding experiential learning opportunities for all concerned,” said Rollins College President Grant Cornwell. “This kind of collaboration speaks exactly to our mission, and I look forward to watching this partnership develop.”

Full Sail University President Garry Jones further added, “Collaboration is a cornerstone of the educational process, and by joining alongside our friends and neighbors at Rollins we are facilitating learning opportunities that not only span across both institutions, but also extend into the professional realm. Like President Cornwell, I too look forward to watching this partnership flourish, and take great pride in the tremendous educational milestones our two schools are sure to achieve together.”

This new partnership allows Rollins students to experience what it’s like to take part in an actual professional recording session in a state-of-the-art facility. Full Sail students are exposed to music and instrumentation outside of the popular music genre and are given the ability to record a live performance including the intricacies of capturing the sounds and tones of classical instruments in a live setting.

“Our students’ educational experience is greatly enhanced through classroom and performance instruction, ensemble participation, and applied study,” said Professor of Music Daniel Flick, who oversees the student musicians at Rollins. “Now our students also get to benefit from the world-class production facilities offered at Full Sail.”

“We’ve always believed in providing hands-on experiences that can translated into real-world application once our students move into their chosen careers,” said Keith Lay, Full Sail’s Department Chair of Music Industry Studies. “By allowing our students to engage with the students from Rollins during these sessions gives both groups the valuable experience of working together – but more importantly – of learning from one another.”

As an additional facet of the partnership, Rollins and Full Sail University have collaborated with the Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts to offer the community a free holiday concert, “Songs of the Season,” on Saturday, December 2, 2017, 6:00 p.m. at the Seneff Arts Plaza at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. This joint effort further builds on the collaboration between Rollins and Full Sail by joining with Central Florida’s landmark performance venue, the Dr. Phillips Center.

During this festive holiday-themed event, students and faculty from within another Full Sail department – Full Sail’s Show Production degree program – will showcase their prowess serving in production roles in support of Rollins’ music performance students and faculty. The program is designed to appeal to the diverse Central Florida community through the combination of new and existing choral, chamber vocal and instrumental arrangements.
