Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida recently recognized several volunteers for their contributions to the organization and the mission to fight hunger.
ORLANDO, Fla., August 19, 2021 – On Aug. 4, Viviane Bueno was presented with “The Going the Extra Mile” award. Since March 2020, Viviane has contributed over 1,000 hours to help Second Harvest distribute more food to more people amid the global pandemic. Viviane goes the extra mile by helping wherever it’s needed the most but is often seen sorting donations – and even brings friends to volunteer with her.
“It is so important for everyone to volunteer in the food bank, especially during these hard times,” explains Viviane. “For some people the food that we help prepare and get out into the community is the only food available to them and their family.”
The nonprofit also presented Ralphee Addington with the “Dave Pearlman Spirit of Volunteerism” award, which is named after the founder and owner of Kane’s Furniture. Over the years, Ralphee has volunteered at many food drives and rescued truck-loads of food – just like the award’s namesake. When the pandemic started and phone calls started pouring in for home delivery, Ralphee started making daily deliveries, sometimes on the weekends. He never turned down a request, no matter the distance.
