Kathy Ramsberger

Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts

It is one of the most ambitious, and could well become one of the most iconic and transformative projects in the region – namely the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Leading the effort to create one of the nation’s newest performing arts centers of the 21st century, a $500 million project in the heart of downtown Orlando, is Kathy Ramsberger.

Ramsberger has been at the helm of this project since 2002, beginning with its original feasibility study. She then developed the organizational structure and corporate strategic plan for the nonprofit entity responsible for designing, constructing and operating the center, before helping to raise the initial start-up monies while lobbying and negotiating with the City of Orlando and the Orange County governments for over $250 million in public funding. If that wasn’t enough, she also managed the national search for the project architect, helped secure development partners and led the capital campaign which raised over $94 million in private donations during one of the most challenging economic periods in our nation’s history.

Visionary, forward-thinking, tenacious and perhaps the very definition of a leader, Ramsberger continues to drive the center towards its completion.

“A lot of people think we’re an arts organization,” Ramsberger was quoted as saying. “DPAC is actually a real estate development company, with a contract to design nine acres that will house an office tower, a hotel, mixed-use properties…and a performing arts center.”

When asked what DPAC will mean for Orlando, she replied, “The Dr. Phillips Center means ‘Arts for Every Life’ – helping to provide an enhanced quality of life for a diverse audience that the region can be proud of.” Adding, “Our team and people who love the project inspire me each day – from construction workers to board members, from the $5 to $1 million donor, and to our committed volunteers.
