The mission of Florida Blue is simple: “Helping people and communities achieve better health.” It is one which Tony Jenkins uses as a guiding principle in leading a dynamic group of over 250 individuals who are committed to making a difference – not just for customers, but also for the communities that call the region home.
Jenkins’ territory covers nine counties – Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia. He is responsible for how Florida Blue grows its business which works with individuals, businesses and business partners including small groups (4 to 50 employees), mid-markets (51 to 499 employees), and large groups (500+ employees), along with the public sector, which comprises municipal employees and school systems.
Working collaboratively to meet the challenges of lowering health care costs while improving health care delivery is the cost/quality ratio at the foundation of Florida
On the subject of leadership, Jenkins shared that he had discovered three key components to ensuring success: preparation, focus, and expert communication. He said, “Communication is key. On my first job, someone shared with me that expert communication is paramount. You have to be clear in sharing what your needs and expectations are; being a proficient communicator in today’s world is a necessity.”
