amaZulu imports natural and synthetic construction theming materials from around the world and partners with architects, designers, general contractors, project managers and homeowners to provide these theming materials for their projects. The company offers a turnkey service, providing natural and synthetic thatch for roofing, decorative and construction-grade bamboo, eucalyptus pole solutions and gorgeous decorative woven boards for wainscoting or ceiling treatments.

amaZulu is committed to its villages around the world who harvest its natural materials to be socially responsible while also promising to deliver sustainable, top-quality products to its customers. The materials, which are imported from all over the world, are stored at the company’s 12,000-sq.-ft. warehouse in Clermont. The company supplies these materials, as well as various contractor services, to specialized markets like theme parks, zoos, resorts, restaurants, hotels, residential developments and luxury homes.

Three years ago, the company plateaued and was missing out on new business opportunities. Its president, Claire Evans, became a recipient of ATHENAPowerLink, a program that guides women business owners in defining and achieving tangible goals by providing them with access to a panel of business advisors. As a result, an advisory board was set up for amaZulu to renegotiate international vendor deals, build an external sales team and add additional services.

Thanks to the assistance provided by ATHENAPowerlink, the company has been able to win larger projects, increase sales by 52 percent and increase net profits by 18 percent. Overseas vendor deals also were renegotiated, which has made a huge impact on cash flow. The company recently completed a major project with Disney, producing a large portion of custom weavings for its new Pandora – The World of Avatar attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

AthenaPowerLink guides women business owners in defining and achieving tangible goals to accelerate growth and profitability.
