Executive Profile – Kristine Thomas

Kristine Thomas

Kristine Thomas, originally from Seattle Washington, has called Orlando home now for nearly seven years. She’s an award-winning chef and food entrepreneur, or what she calls, a “Foodpreneur.”

She is a new breed ‘healthy’ chef and an advocate for health and wellness. Thomas is also the founder of Welli and Welli Desserts, Welli standing for Wellness Innovation. Her business focuses on educating and coaching organizations about the importance of health and lifestyle choices; and what better way than through food?

Thomas brings an innovative approach to rethinking everything we eat. From the extensive research she has done, she has developed a plant-based and holistic style to overall nutrition and wellness. You’ll find her cooking up fun and inspiring audiences at food and health events across the state of Florida.

When asked what brought her to Orlando, Thomas responds, “warm weather!” Living in the Sunshine State seems to match her sunny disposition. “Honestly, coming from Seattle, I was always surrounded by healthy food options and great restaurants, but the gloomy, rainy weather finally encouraged me to leave.” After considering Portland, Oregon, Los Angeles, California and Boulder, Colorado, Thomas finally planted roots in Orlando. “I love Orlando,” she says, an opinion shared by most in the Central Florida area. “Orlando is so much more than what I thought it would be. We’re a small, big city and you really feel the sense of community. Not only that, but Orlando has an incredible ‘foodie’ community consisting of chefs, bloggers and restaurateurs alike.”

ORL_FoodLabThomas’ newest endeavor is an organization she started called ORL Food Lab. This new non-profit works to foster the growth of Orlando’s culinary scene and food related businesses. “My goal is to create a platform for ‘foodpreneurs’ to share their talents and amplify their voices to the world and really showcase Orlando as a food destination.”

As a leader in the community, Thomas also serves on the board of the Central Florida Wellness Council, and is also a member of ATHENA Orlando, weVENTURE, Florida Health Innovators, and the Orlando Healthy Living Committee. She also works closely and shares her “food-know-how” with organizations such as Florida Hospital, the Lake Nona Innovation Center and the Central Florida YMCA.
